There are so many types of relationships that can produce protective benefits for our mental and physical health, and I imagine that they look different for every person. But I introduce today a type of friendship that I think might resonate with common life and community life of the religious in particular—holy friendship.
The Constitutions of the Holy Family Brothers (Articles 95 and 159)
give us different values or attitudes one should have to make a holy
friendship. One should be imbued with the family spirit, live a genuine
fraternal life. They should love one another. And try to be of one mind and one
heart, open minded. They should compete in kindness and accepting one another,
forgiving etc. being sensitive to the problems of the loved and believed one.
He must overcome the selfishness.
The above virtues or values help to create a climate of real friendship
which help to find an effective balance that is indispensable to live a common
life and community life. And will be more effective in the pastoral mission.
